Meet Carol Kemker: Georgia ForestWatch Board Member

Carol has practiced environmental engineering and environmental management in the Southeast for almost 20 years. She has served as an advisor on air quality, pesticides and toxics. As such, she provides national and regional leadership and technical direction in the formulation of plans in these areas. Prior to assuming responsibility for air quality, pesticides, and toxics, Carol served as an advisor on water quality, dealing with wetlands programs, coastal programs, and drinking water programs, among others.

Carol is a part of Georgia ForestWatch because she cares about people, has a passion for the outdoors and firmly believes that a healthy forest and environment is critical to clean water and clean air.

Carol’s commitment to the environment plays out in everything she does: she commutes to work via MARTA, recycles, and plants native plants in her yard. Her husband Jim Poulos designs and consults on energy efficiency for commercial and institutional buildings. Both graduates of Georgia Tech, Jim and Carol are avid hikers, kayakers, and campers. They’ve set a goal of seeing all of the major waterfalls in the North Georgia area. Helping them on their quest is their Golden Retriever, Hennessy. Carol and Jim live in Brookhaven, near Lenox Mall, in Atlanta.

Thanks to Carol's presence, the ForestWatch board is more grounded in environmental science than ever.
