BREAKING NEWS - Please call key staffers!

We have just learned that the Land & Water Conservation Fund bill is being marked up right now in the House Energy and Commerce Committee.

Thanks to everyone who contacted key Reps previously. This time around we need as many folks as possible to call these three key U.S. Representatives: Barrow, Deal, and Gingrey. See below for details.

Who to call:

For this round comments should be CALLED in. They are listed in order of priority, so if you only have time for one call - make it Barrow's office.

Rep. John Barrow 202-225-2823
Rep. Nathan Deal 202-225-5211
Rep. Phil Gingrey 202-225-2931

What to say:

Ask that your view be forwarded to the key staffer working on the House Energy and Conservation Bill. Say this in your own words:

  • I support $5 million in Land & Water Conservation Funding for Georgia. No funding in 06, 08 and 09 indicate a huge need for funding this cycle.
  • I support conservation of these important land and water resources.
  • Now is the time to secure these important tracts as part of our National Forests in Georgia.

New to this issue?  Here's more info:

The U.S. Forest Service needs your help to take advantage of the Land & Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) -- one of the best ways for increasing the base of national forestland. The agency, working with land conservation partners and willing property owners have identified and secured agreements for key parcels.

Earlier this month, we alerted our members to ask Senators Saxby Chambliss and Johnny Isakson to submit request letters of support through senate appropriations in order to garner LWCF funding. Georgia received no funding from LWCF in 06, 08 or 2009! We needed to show support for our senators to request these funds.
